Ismailov CathedralI just received this information from a friend on the recent bad fire at the Ismailov Cathedral. Terrible shame that it could have happened. Above is a picture of how it looked c.1900regards, Dear George, "Sadly, there was a fire on the 25th of August of 2006 which destroyed a significant part of the cathedral. It is believed that the fire started at the site of the wooden construction part that surrounded the cathedral (there was some reconstruction, painting etc. work in progress and the surrounding the walls constructions were mainly built of wood). The fire continued for over six hours and was scaled as #4 fire on the 5-scale system. In addition to the fire brigades, two helicopters were involved in the work. It is believed that the cathedral can be restored. |
